Capstone C60/C65 MicroTurbine Air Intake Louvers

Systems Affected

Model C60/C65 MicroTurbine systems shipped from Capstone between May 2006 and March 2007.

Safety Precautions

Only Capstone Authorized Serviced Providers (ASP’s) should open the MicroTurbine and other equipment connected to the MicroTurbine. The systems can include multiple sources of power. The fuel used by the MicroTurbine is flammable and explosive. Keep flames, cigarettes, sparks, and electrical arc-producing equipment away from the MicroTurbine. Observe and adhere to the Safety Instructions contained within the MicroTurbine documentation.


The upper air louvers on the MicroTurbine front door, used to baffle and duct the air intake for the turbine engine, can dislodge and partially block the air flow path to the engine. The effect of this blockage is a reduction in power output of up to 1 kW depending on the number of displaced louvers. The problem can be resolved with a field replacement of a properly sized louver. The following procedure can be performed to visually inspect your system:

1. Place MicroTurbine into “stand-by” state.

2. From the front of the door, look through the upper louver system. If the foam baffle material covering the duct is visible, the louver has become dislodged.

3. Figure 1 shows a dislodged louver and compares it to a “normal” louver.

4. Please follow Work Instruction 440146 to replace the louver(s).
