Service Bulletin SB0043

Date: From: Subject:

Affected

All existing Capstone PowerServer (P/N 512124) units manufactured by Capstone Turbine Corporation®.

Safety Precautions

Only Capstone Authorized Service Providers (ASP’s) should open the MicroTurbine and other equipment connected to the MicroTurbine. The systems can include multiple sources of power. Observe and adhere to Safety Instructions contained within MicroTurbine manuals.

Summary

Capstone PowerServer Software version 2.09 has been released to provide enhanced functionality in 3 areas: Transient Load Handling, Hardware Control, and Multipac Grouping.

Transient Load Handling allows the PowerServer to better handle transient loads in Maximum Efficiency mode. Loads such as motors have comparatively large power requirements during start-up, and reduced loads afterward. Since the system operates in the highest efficiency mode, it may not be able to handle a sudden surge in output power. Transient Load Handling can provide boost capability to handle these sudden surges.

Hardware Control provides a simple method to override dispatch parameters, using a digital input on the User Interface Board. This is done without modifying the standard setup, and without accessing the remote control/monitoring software. Such a need may arise, for example, during the weekend, when the power generation system has been set to operate at low level, and an urgent need requires the system to operate at the regular weekly capacity. Hardware Control precludes the necessity of requiring facility staff on-site to make configuration changes to the hardware.

Multipac Grouping allows the PowerServer to view and configure MicroTurbine groups, allowing the PowerServer to dispatch an entire group on or off simultaneously.

Backward compatibility with existing versions of PowerServer software is being maintained in this release. No new hardware needs to be purchased for this latest upgrade.
