Do you know people that experience frequent problems with their car? Always seems to be in the shop having major worked performed before planned. Sometimes these are reliability issues. I know people that own cars from manufacturers known for reliability and still have these experiences. Often the root cause can be traced to not performing the recommended preventive maintenance.

Preventive Maintenance (or scheduled maintenance) is an important function to the successful operation of many pieces of equipment. A car is the most obvious example that we all easily relate to. But measuring scales

lasted up to 5 years when driving lots of freeway miles. One might last a year with a lot of around town starting and stopping. A car that is not operated at all might last two months.

The requirement to perform preventive maintenance on a Capstone MicroTurbine system is no less important. Engine filter clogging will limit performance. Electronics filter clogging will lead to overheating. Not replacing the igniter will result in failed start attempts.

Capstone has made available resources to assist with performing this work. A preventive maintenance schedule describes the time intervals to perform required cleaning and parts replacements. Work Instructions exist to describe required operations. Service kits have been created to make ordering easy and they are provided at a discount to encourage this behavior.

As a Capstone Service Provider we expect that you are supporting our customers. A preventive maintenance package should be available to buy or bundled with the initial MicroTurbine sale. More frequent schedules may be required depending on the environment. When maintenance is not performed, we expect that you notify the customer that performance and reliability will be affected.

Not performing preventive maintenance often results in lack of performance or premature failure. Not changing a filter will overtime lead to restricted flow resulting in limited performance. Not changing oil can lead to friction, overheating, and early failure. Would you fly on an airplane you knew was not up to date with the specified preventive maintenance? What power output might you expect from a MicroTurbine with the filter element shown below.

Some environments can cause more frequent maintenance than recommended. My car has
