Wastewater Treatment Plant using Capstone Turbines Opens in Minnesota !

"There is no cleaner piece of equipment," said Jan Scott, President of Unison Solutions, as he described the newly-installed set of four Model C30 MicroTurbines at a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The turbines will produce 800,000 kilowatt/hours of energy a year, creating $40,000 to $60,000 in savings.

The idea to install MicroTurbines began in 2002, when Unison Solutions, ASP for Alliant Energy, was searching for customers that could benefit from renewable energy as part of a state program, co-sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. The Wastewater Treatment Facility is an ideal location because it requires energy and heat and provides its own (renewable) biogas fuel.

The Minnesota Department of Commerce gave an $85,000 grant to the Treatment Facility for two turbines; Albert Lea donated $76,000 for two additional turbines and Alliant Energy purchased a new compressor for the project. The total cost of the project was $250,000.

"Businesses are looking for cities that have vision," according to Lois Mack, Manager of the Conservation Improvement Program, Minnesota Department of Commerce.

Installing such environmentally conscious, innovative technology, shows forward thinking, she said. She also mentioned that industries have been looking to come to Minnesota.

Coming Soon ! CHP Heat Exchanger Retrofit Kits for C60 Systems

Capstone will soon offer a CHP Heat Recovery Module (HRM) retrofit kit for C60 MicroTurbine systems in the Large Industrial Package (LIP) configuration.

A C60 system with a top-mounted HRM can improve overall efficiency at your site by taking advantage of the MicroTurbine’s exhaust for cooling or heating applications.

With web based training recertification now in progress, each ASP will be issued an ASP ID number. This number will now be used to access both the Member’s Only website, as well as Web Based Training lessons. After receiving your recertification notice via email, your Member’s Only website access will be changed to the same login and password as the Web Based Training.

Submit the completed registration forms to the Training department by fax (818-734-1072) at least 10 days prior to the course so that prerequisites can be verified and materials prepared. Lack of early registrants may lead to course cancellation.
