Service Notice SN0017
Date: From: Subject:
All Capstone MicroTurbines using diesel fuel.
The fuel additive cerium oxide, used to improve diesel fuel combustion, has been found to deposit residue inside MicroTurbine fuel injectors. The brownish-colored deposits generally cover the air annulus without affecting fuel flow (see Figure 1). Over time, the buildup will compromise air flow, thus causing combustion problems including problems with starting and increased emissions.
Capstone recommends that the use of cerium oxide as a fuel additive be discontinued immediately.
