Technical Reference MultiPac Operation Technical Information
This document provides technical information for operating Capstone Model C30 and Model C60/C65 MicroTurbines in a collective arrangement known as a MultiPac. In a MultiPac, MicroTurbines can be installed in groups of up to 20 units (100 units with the optional Capstone PowerServer) to operate as a single power generation source. Refer to the Capstone PowerServer Technical Reference (410024) for details utilizing a PowerServer in MultiPac installations.
MultiPac operation features synchronous voltage and frequency for all MicroTurbines in the group. Individual turbines share power and load on both a dynamic and steady state basis. A single physical and logical control point, designated as the “master”, directs signal and command information to all other turbines. However, any individual turbine in the group may be designated as the master.
MultiPac can be operated in any of three available modes: Stand Alone, Grid Connect or Dual Mode. In each mode, individual MicroTurbines share power, current and load on both a dynamic and steady state basis, and generate current to meet the required load demand. Dual Mode operation requires purchase of an optional Capstone Dual Mode Controller.
All Capstone MicroTurbines are capable of operating in a MultiPac. A MultiPac Interconnection Kit (509949) is required to implement MultiPac functionality. The kit includes an inter-controller cable, two inter-controller terminators, a coaxial cable, and two coaxial terminations. Contact Capstone Technical Support for order information.
An illustrative interconnection diagram is presented in Figure 1.
