THE EMERGENCY STOP (E-STOP) OPTION KIT

Description

The Emergency Stop (E-Stop) option kit is designed to allow anyone to safely and immediately shut down the MicroTurbine in the event of emergency. The E-Stop should never be routinely used as a method to shut down the MicroTurbine.

The E-Stop option kit consists of a NEMA-3R rated enclosure which has a stop button and a weather resistant, a lockable clear plastic cover to prevent accidental E-Stop activation, 10 meters (26 feet) of three wire cable, and various labels.

The E-Stop enclosure should not be mounted directly to the MicroTurbine frame. If the E-Stop is activated by someone standing near the cart frame, they could be injured by the hot gas escaping from the combustor. Also, the cable could be damaged when the cart is extended from or to returned to the system enclosure, causing E-Stop activation.

WARNING: Repeated use of the optional Emergency Stop button will result in damage to the MicroTurbine. Use only in emergency situations.

When connecting the E-Stop, the cables are wired to Terminal Block 1, pin 12, and Terminal Block 2, pins 11 and 12, found in the User Connection Bay. Pin 12, Terminal Block 1 is the ground connection for the E- Stop and is labeled “chassis.” Pins 11 and 12 are labeled as “local E-Stop.” The strands of the cable designate which wire goes to which pin.

If the E-Stop is activated, the system will shut down, with the shaft rotating until friction causes it to cease rotation. If a restart is desired, perform the following steps:

Wait until the system has cooled down sufficiently (TET is less than 800o F).

Rotate the E-Stop button clockwise approximately one quarter turn to reset the button.

Shut off power to the MicroTurbine at the breaker panel for 30 seconds.

Turn power back on. Restart the MicroTurbine.
